Summer 2026 | Core Research Operations Undergraduate Assistant

Core Research Operations (CRO) is seeking motivated, punctual, and reliable undergraduate students to assist permanent staff with stewardship of complex research instrumentation and management of our shared laboratory spaces. 

This position begins summer 2026 with the potential to continue into the Fall 2026 semester and beyond depending upon performance. The hours/week requirement for this position is tailored to your course schedule but all shifts must be a minimum of 3 hours on at least 3 different days per week between 8AM and 5PM M-F. There is no provision for any paid leave for this position-if you are absent for any reason (conference, illness, etc.) you will not be paid. This position reports to Dr. Casey Smith, CRO manager and pays $14/hr. 

Preference will be given to candidates based on relevant experience including but not limited to the following categories: 

use of CRO equipment (microscopy, electrical/magnetic, surface analysis, particles/pores, spectroscopy, elemental analysis, sample preparation) 

Utilizing complex equipment or appliances 

handling hazardous chemicals (compressed gas, acid, base, flammable, toxic) 

providing customer service, inventory management 

Training or instructing others 

Familiarity with web-calendars and MS Office productivity software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 

Ability to occasionally lift up to 40lbs 

Candidates must have the following essential skills/attributes: 

does not hold any other paid position at TxState 

comprehend, follow, and enforce lab safety policy 

actively develop technical equipment understanding by reading/asking questions/practice 

ability to train others to follow detailed instructions for performing technical tasks 

prompt communication 

At least TWO (2) long semesters remaining prior to graduation 

Seeking a degree in a natural science, physical science, or closely related engineering discipline 

Available to start on 6/1/26 and work at least until mid-August
