Assistant Aquatic Director

Accepting applicants for ASSISTANT AQUATIC DIRECTOR with the City of Lewiston’s Recreation Department. Applications are available from the Human Resources Department or online at www.lewistonmaine.gov.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Barg. Unit:     Non-Union

Status:          Temporary (seasonal), June-August.

Schedule:     32-40 hours/week, Day shift

Pay Range:   $19.00-$22.00/hourly

 

Kennedy Park Pool offers program and open swim Tuesday-Saturday from June 23-August 15. Expected hours are 32-40 hours per week. Flexible schedule available.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Experience with Aquatics and/or Lifeguarding preferred. American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification not required, but Lewiston Recreation will cover training costs if interested. Should hold valid CPR/First Aid certification. Knowledge of pool and pool deck operations is preferred but will train the right candidate! This is an active position; applicants should have the ability to be highly active. Must be a strong leader and enjoy working with people of all ages. Must be a self-starter with excellent judgement and decision-making skills. Must demonstrate accountability for participant safety, equipment, supplies and necessary reporting, and be at all times a positive role model. 

 

WORK ACTIVITIES: Assist with supervision and training of 15-20 seasonal employees, ranging from Aquatic Aides to Lifeguards. Maintain active surveillance of entire Aquatic Facility. Relay information to staff and patrons. Perform a wide variety of duties; including but not limited to, enforcement of safety regulations and policies and corrective action for violations, as required. Maintain active communication with, and provide backup for, the Aquatics Director. Maintain records and prepare reports. Record and report any facility safety needs to appropriate department personnel. Recommend corrective action for facility, as needed. Complete required paperwork in a timely manner. Adapt to a changing environment based on needs of the program. Perform other duties as assigned.
