Financial Controller

Job Posting: Financial Controller (Mortgage/Loan Brokerage)

We are looking for a Full-Charge Controller to bring high-level structure to our expanding brokerage. Because we operate across multiple states and move high volumes of transactions, we need a "system-builder" who can manage the complexities of multi-state licensing, payroll, and aggressive tax efficiency.

The Role

This is a "hands-on" position. You will be the architect of our financial department, moving us from basic bookkeeping to sophisticated financial management. You will act as the primary liaison between our firm and our external tax lawyers and accountants to ensure we are maximizing every possible fiscal advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Treasury:

Manage the full-cycle accounting process (AP/AR, General Ledger).

Tracking Checks & Wire Transfers: Rigorous oversight of incoming commissions and outgoing payments to ensure no funds are stalled in the pipeline.

Account Balancing: Daily/Weekly reconciliation of operating and escrow accounts.

Forecasting & Reporting:

Develop cash flow models based on the current "pipeline" of loans.

Provide weekly "Pipeline-to-Cash" reports for ownership to guide growth decisions.

Compliance & Multi-State Management:

Licensing Oversight: Tracking and renewing company and individual NMLS/State licenses across all operating territories.

Ensuring the business meets the specific financial reporting requirements for each state’s regulatory body.

Strategic Liaison (Tax & Legal):

Manage the relationship with our tax lawyers and outside accountants.

Act as the "internal filter" to ensure we are providing them with clean data so they can focus on high-level strategy rather than basic corrections.

Implement tax-saving strategies recommended by our legal team.

Payroll & HR Admin:

Manage payroll for a mix of salaried and commission-based staff.

Oversee benefits administration and tax withholdings.

Qualifications

Experience: 2+ years of experience, ideally in a or a high-volume professional services firm.

The "First Controller" DNA: Experience setting up processes from scratch. You should be someone who enjoys organizing chaos.

Compliance Savvy: Can get “up to speed” quickly with multi-state filing requirements and the ability to manage a compliance calendar.

Software Mastery: Proficiency in QuickBooks (or similar) and a high comfort level with CRM/Loan Origination software integrations.
