Robotics Engineering Intern

Robotics Engineering Intern — Hardware & Motion Control

Company: Nimo Technology, Inc. Location: Mountain View, CA (Onsite)

Employment Type: Internship (Full-time or Part-time), 3–6 months with possibility to extend — Return offer / full-time conversion available for strong performers Compensation: $30–$45/hr (DOE)

About Nimo

Nimo Technology is building the next generation of intelligent robots powered by foundation models. We're a small, fast-moving team in Mountain View working at the intersection of large-scale robot learning and real-world deployment.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on Robotics Engineering Intern who loves building and tinkering with real hardware. You'll work alongside our engineering team to keep our robots running, improve mechanisms, write motion control code, and help bring new prototypes to life. If you love taking a robot apart, swapping a motor, and having it back up and running by lunch, this is your role.

This is a great fit for a Robotics / ME / EE student who wants real production experience before graduating. Strong interns will be considered for a full-time offer.

What You'll Do

  • Help develop and tune motion control code: forward/inverse kinematics (FK/IK), trajectory generation, basic control loops
  • Write and debug ROS/ROS2 nodes, topics, and services
  • Design and iterate on mechanical parts (brackets, mounts, end-effectors) using CAD
  • Assemble, wire, and debug robot hardware — motors, encoders, sensors, actuators
  • Maintain and upgrade existing robot platforms; diagnose issues across mechanical/electrical/software
  • Support the ML team by preparing hardware for policy deployment and data collection

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, EE, or related field
  • Coursework or project experience in robotics fundamentals: kinematics, dynamics, or control
  • Familiarity with ROS or ROS2 (topics, tf, URDF)
  • Proficient in Python and/or C++
  • CAD experience (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Onshape)
  • Hands-on builder mindset — comfortable with wiring, assembly, and debugging real hardware
  • Self-driven, curious, and willing to learn fast

Nice to Have

  • Personal or course projects involving robot arms, mobile robots, drones, or similar
  • Experience with MoveIt, OMPL, or other motion planning frameworks
  • 3D printing, CNC, or rapid prototyping experience
  • Familiarity with motor controllers, servo drivers, or real-time control
  • Experience with teleoperation rigs or data collection systems
  • GitHub portfolio of hardware/robotics projects

Why Join Us

  • Real robots, real problems — no simulation-only work
  • Join a research-driven team exploring cutting-edge robotics systems
  • Mentorship from engineers building production robotics systems
  • Small team, high ownership — your work ships, not busywork
  • Clear path to full-time conversion for strong performers
  • Onsite in Mountain View with a tight-knit engineering team

How to Apply

Submit your resume + a short note (2–3 sentences) on a hardware or robotics project you've built. Photos, videos, or GitHub links strongly encouraged.
