Position Overview
C&J’s Candy Store & Scoop Shoppe is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Small Business Supply Chain Intern to support inventory management, stocking systems, and operational efficiency within a
fast-paced retail environment.
This position provides hands-on experience in small business operations, with a focus on inventory flow, product organization, and process improvement. The intern will play a key role in ensuring products are accessible, properly rotated, and consistently available for sale.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Organization and Management
- Organize backstock and storerooms to ensure products are clearly visible and easy to locate
- Implement and maintain first-in, first-out (FIFO) product rotation based on expiration dates
- Establish and maintain consistent organization standards across storage areas
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements to inventory systems
Stocking and Merchandising Support
- Restock sales floor from backstock using proper rotation practices
- Maintain full, clean, and visually appealing product displays
- Learn product categories and placement to support efficient stocking
- Ensure shelves remain consistently stocked during operating hours
Inventory Tracking and Accuracy
- Assist in monitoring inventory levels and identifying discrepancies
- Support basic inventory audits and spot checks
- Communicate low stock, overstock, or slow-moving items to management
- Maintain accurate product counts within inventory systems
Purchasing and Planning Support
- Assist with tracking product movement and sales trends
- Support development of reorder guidelines based on demand and shelf life
- Observe and contribute to purchasing decisions and inventory planning
Process Improvement and Documentation
- Help develop and refine stocking procedures and checklists
- Assist in organizing storage layouts for improved efficiency
- Document systems and processes for use in staff training

Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Basic math skills and ability to estimate quantities and totals
- Ability to work independently and follow structured processes
- Comfortable with physical tasks including lifting and stocking inventory
- Interest in operations, supply chain, or retail management preferred
Schedule and Work Environment
- Part-time; approximately 12–20 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling, including some weekends as needed
- On-site work at retail store location
Compensation
- Hourly paid position
- Opportunity for continued employment based on performance
Supervision and Support
- Reports directly to store owners
- Regular check-ins to review progress, provide feedback, and support learning goals
- Increasing responsibility and independence over the course of the internship
