Graduate Assistant for the Chesley Center on Aging - Social Work

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Graduate Assistant will provide support to the Chesley Center and the Director. Duties include event planning and coordination; program administration (assisting with board meetings, website design, social media, strategic plan implementation); development of new initiatives; and policy and research on aging-related topics

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong interest in aging-related policy work
  • A graduate student in Social Work, Sociology, or other field allied with Aging Studies
  • Must have basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must be willing to maintain a 20 hours per week schedule that includes flexibility as specific scheduling needs arise
  • A bachelor's degree
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience working with or researching older adult issues
  • Experience planning events
  • Experience with website design and social media
  • Interest in policy-related research
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
