High School Science Teacher

High School Science Teacher 

 

Summary

Kairos Academies is seeking a hardworking, culture-building, student-focused, data-driven high school Science Teacher specializing in Chemistry and/or Physics. At Kairos, all teachers are leaders—you’ll not only teach rigorous lab-based science courses but also serve in a whole-school service role (e.g., STEM Lead, Safety Lead) that advances inquiry, innovation, and student agency.

Key Responsibilities

Rigorous Instruction & Curriculum

Adapt and implement NGSS- and standards-aligned Chemistry and Physics units

Design hands-on labs, simulations, rubrics, and performance assessments

Data-Driven Practice

Analyze EOC, NWEA, MAP, and internal lab assessments to inform instruction

Monitor conceptual understanding, address misconceptions, and differentiate supports

Student & Family Engagement

Provide daily, actionable feedback in lab notebooks, reports, and problem sets

Communicate progress and next steps via email, calls, and parent-teacher conferences

Mentoring 

  • Facilitate student Circle once a week, as well as participate in all staff Circle once a week
  • Monitor your mentor group’s academic and behavior progress and provide support students in setting and reaching ambitious academic and character development goals
  • Provide guidance and support on students’ self-discovery work 
  • Serve as a direct point-of-contact for Kairos families to communicate school-wide information

Whole School Leadership 

  • Serve in a “whole-school service” role (e.g., Tutoring Lead, Safety Lead) to drive STEM initiatives.

Driver Goals

  • EOC Proficiency: 60% of students meet or exceed EOC proficiency benchmarks.
  • NWEA Growth: 70% of students demonstrate expected or above-expected growth.
  • Mentoring Participation: 75% of students meet coaching engagement and reflection benchmarks.
  • On-Track Gradient Classes: 85% of students maintain on-track progress in Science coursework.

Qualifications

Degree: Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Physics, Science Education, or related; Master’s preferred

Certification: Valid Missouri Chemistry and/or Physics teaching certification (or willingness to certify ASAP)

Experience: 3+ years of high school Chemistry and/or Physics teaching preferred

Skills: Expertise in laboratory safety, scientific inquiry, data analysis, and modeling

  • Other: Eligible to work for any employer in the U.S; pass criminal background check

Technology & Safety 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, student information systems, and digital science tools (e.g., PhET, Vernier LabQuest)

Commitment to lab safety protocols, emergency procedures, and chemical handling regulations

  • Base Salary: $60,000

Schedule 

  • Monday–Friday, 7:40 AM–3:30 PM (occasional evenings/weekends)
  • On-site role at Kairos Academies in St. Louis, MO
