Contingent Life Science Research Professional

 About the Position: 

 

The Department of Pathology at Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and independently conduct and analyze experiments.

The Life Science Research Professional 1 to help support research in the minimally invasive testing field. Opportunities for independent conduct experiments that can lead to a publication are available and encouraged. Skills learned can prepare the researcher for a future in graduate or professional school, or as a scientist/engineer in the growing multibillion dollar industry of cell-free DNA diagnostics. Under the supervision of the principal investigator, duties include participation in research projects, clinical study design and execution, assay development, NGS library preparation, data collection, and assistance with data analysis and manuscripts. There may be opportunities for publication.

The position is in collaboration with Dr. Fei Dong, Director of the Clinical Molecular Pathology Laboratory at Stanford Healthcare and Associate Professor of Pathology. Dr. Dong has several clinical projects with pre-generated data. The position will spend roughly 2 of 5 days on Dr. Dong’s projects and 3 of 5 days specifically on Gu’s Lab projects with significant overlap between the two PIs. The location and desk position will be the same.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, bioengineering, biology/genetics, computational biology, physics, chemistry or a related area
  • Knowledge and experience in the following fields: genetics, bioinformatics in relation to genomics or at least programming experience, biochemistry, cancer biology, molecular biology, bioengineering,
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and the ability to perform as part of a team.
  • Excellent written/oral communication
  • Interpersonal skills like patient, punctual, and conscientious

 

Working Conditions:

  • Position may at times require the employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
  • Due to the nature of the work, this position will work 100% on-site
  • Term of appointment: 1-year term
  • Location: 3373 Hillview Building, Palo Alto, CA
  • Approximately: 40 hours/week 
  • The expected pay range for this position is $29.04 - $48.49 per hour, based on education and relevant experience.
