Job Description: Youth Outreach Coordinator
OVERVIEW:
The individual filling this position serves as the Youth Outreach Coordinator of North Andover’s community media center, a 501(c)(3) independent non profit organization. North Andover CAM oversees the operation of the Public, Education & Government Access channels with approximately 8,000 cable subscribers from Comcast and Verizon. Established in 2004, North Andover CAM is an organization with cutting edge digital technology making media communication available and interactive to the North Andover community.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Youth Outreach Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to actively recruit, engage, and retain youth participation by coordinating youth membership and providing creative opportunities and mentorship through media-based programming. The position promotes digital literacy as a pathway for youth involvement and community connection. Additional duties include supporting news and event coverage in accordance with the principles, practices, and techniques of Community Media operations.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement youth programs and activities
- Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and opportunities for youth and media
- Collaborate with community organizations, schools, and parents for joint activities/projects
- Create opportunities that encourage youth to participate in activities that North Andover CAM has to offer
- Promote programs through outreach and community engagement
- Coordinate volunteer and staff participation in youth activities
- Advocate for the needs and interests of youth members
- Assist in daily media coverage productions
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Degree in Communications or related experience
- Conceptual knowledge of the media production process
- Must have the ability and interest in working directly with youth
- Ability to run engaging and educational media related workshops
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, individuals, ideas, and opinions.
- Proficiency in using technology for program management and promotion
- Familiarity with social media and media creation
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- The ability to work on your feet for most of a shift on any given workday.
