The Undergraduate Student Assistant will support ongoing research activities for the National Center for Sustainable Transportation (NCST) project at UC Davis. The primary responsibility is analyzing video footage from onboard Unitrans bus cameras to conduct systematic passenger counts, contributing to ridership data collection efforts that inform transit planning and service evaluation. The student will process and organize count data, assist with quality control and data validation, and support research documentation. The student will collaborate closely with graduate researchers and faculty to advance project deliverables, and may assist with preparation of presentations, reports, and other research outputs as needed.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail and comfort working with data and digital tools
  • Computer Science Major
  • Technical skills including Python, R, SQL, and Tableau, as well as coursework in Machine Learning, Regression and Variance Analysis, and Probability Theory.
  • Experience at Deloitte & Touche conducting data engineering, systems analysis, and user testing
  • ability to work carefully and systematically with large datasets 
  • Skill to structured video review and passenger count validation
  • Experience  conducting statistical modeling and produced data-driven deliverables.
