ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY PROJECT ASSOCIATE
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Environmental Quality Project Associate is responsible for conducting environmental regulation work projects; assist the program and staff with a wide range of environmental projects. This position consists of a combination of field and office work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide assistance on environmental projects to the Program Manager and other staff members.
- Collect environmental field data from air, groundwater, surface water, soils, drums, tanks, lagoons, ponds and other media or items suspected of containing contaminants or for characterizations of other environmental parameters.
- Conduct research on issues related to environmental projects; compile historical data from Tribal, Federal and State agencies; enter environmental data/information into computer database and spreadsheet.
- Assist staff in developing and implementing environmental related projects with an emphasis on surface water, groundwater, soil and air programs; conduct facility inspections; implement Tribal ordinances; provide technical assistance on pollution prevention controls; conduct assessments and works on environmental permitting activities.
- Assists in environmental mapping projects and assist in coordinating field activities with federal agencies, consultants, Tribal departments and land owners/operators.
- Make presentations at public meetings and assist in developing federal grant proposals, and maintain program records.
- Review and comment on plans, specifications, designs, reports, studies and procedures relating to environmental management and compliance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
- Knowledge of computer software, especially word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Skill in analyzing problems, identifying solutions and making recommendations in support of goals and objectives.
- Skill in planning, organizing data, conducting individual research and analyzing data.
- Skill in writing narrative reports as well as making oral presentations.
- Ability to follow directions, both verbally and written instructions.
- Ability to prepare required records and reports.
- Ability to apply learned skills to new work situations.
- Ability to make sound decision and have good judgment.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public.
- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Physical science, Biological Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field and a minimum of three (3) years field experience in environmental issues.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Tribal Driving Permit can be required.
