The Digital Print Production Technician is a key member of the web press production team, responsible for preparing all digital files—including ads, editorial pages, images, and special sections—for high-volume print production. This role ensures artwork meets technical specifications, is accurately processed through RIP workflows, and is plate-ready according to production schedules. The operator maintains file organization, color accuracy, and quality standards while supporting pressroom operations in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

File Preparation & Workflow

  • Preflight, prepare, and process digital files using industry-standard pre-press software.
  • Ensure correct color profiles, resolution, bleeds, trims, fonts, and other technical requirements.
  • Impose pages for web press layouts, including pagination, plate breaks, and press configurations.
  • Release jobs through RIP systems and coordinate with pagination and editorial teams.
  • Produce low-resolution PDFs for approval and high-resolution PDFs for plating.

Quality Control

  • Review pages for errors, image issues, color accuracy, sizing, and missing elements.
  • Confirm all ad and editorial content meets print specifications.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Resolve RIP errors, font and file issues, missing images, and color anomalies.
  • Work with press operators to address output and press-related issues.
  • Maintain organized digital assets, backups, and file-naming standards.

Plant Coordination & Maintenance

  • Communicate with editorial, advertising, production, and pressroom teams to meet deadlines.
  • Manage multiple job queues and support press start-up and plate sequencing.
  • Maintain ICC profiles, RIP presets, imposition templates, and workflow documentation.

Skills & Qualifications

Technical Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of pre-press experience in a newspaper, magazine, or high-volume web press environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and pre-press workflow tools.
  • Strong knowledge of CMYK color theory, newsprint standards, and plate-making workflows.
  • Experience with RIP systems, FTP transfers, and networked production environments.

Physical Requirements

Work Schedule

  • Full-time evening/overnight position with flexibility to cover vacations and peak production periods.
