Clinical Student Pharmacist-Solid Organ Transplant Clinic

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking student pharmacists currently enrolled at the College of Pharmacy for positions within the specialty pharmacy and the adult solid organ transplant clinics.

Position Description

Under general pharmacist supervision, coordinates and performs student intern activities on behalf of the specialty pharmacy and adult solid organ transplant clinics. This student will work closely with the adult transplant clinical pharmacy specialists and other staff within the hospital to support communication and coordination with the adult transplant clinics, serve as a resource for specialty pharmacy enrollment and / or transplant related pharmacy activities, and help resolve requests and issues from staff and patients. The student will report to the Clinical Pharmacy Manager.

 Position Hours

  • Average 10 hours per week (up to 20 hours/week during classes, up to 40 hours/week over breaks)
  • Primarily 2–5-hour shifts M-F 0800-1700
  • Must be available to work summer 2026

Position Responsibilities Include

  • Document and provide services consistent with established policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements
  • Provide patient / customer service. Communicate with the public, patients, and other health care personnel in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Provide Specialty Pharmacy services included, but not limited to: assisting patients with triaging insurance-related issues, educating patients on new start specialty medications, conducting follow-ups (via in-person or telephone), and answering drug-related information questions
  • Create resources to improve pharmacy related efficiencies, pharmacist and non-pharmacist educational resources, and patient education resources in adult transplant clinic and specialty pharmacy
  • Assist in longitudinal medication use evaluations and quality assurance initiatives 
  • Serve as a resource to staff with related items and enrollment of patients into pharmacy services (i.e., specialty pharmacy)
  • Maintain workspace orderliness and cleanliness
  • Assist in on-the-job training of new interns or team members
  • Coordinate technical activities with members of the Specialty Pharmacy operations team
  • Complete and maintain compliance with all competencies and education requirements
  • Provide evidence-based care via professional association and institution specific guidelines
  • Within scope of practice and training, assist pharmacist to facilitate pharmaceutical care to patients including but not limited to patient counseling, medication reconciliation, and clinical follow-up
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a pharmacy student at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy
  • Must be registered as intern with Iowa Board of Pharmacy prior to commencement of employment
  • Completing first year of pharmacy school
