Office Graduate Assistant (Reception) in The Graduate College

As a member of the Reception team, this position will handle the day-to-day activities of the front office and will report directly to the Manager of The Graduate College. The Graduate College serves as a key contact for many prospective and current students as well as campus stakeholders. The Reception team ensures that all patrons receive appropriate information and high levels of customer service. Additionally, there are a variety of office needs throughout the semester that the Reception team may support, including data entry, filing, office organization, and event preparation. Performance will be evaluated each semester by the Manager of The Graduate College. Pay rates are determined by the University Pay Plan for a Graduate Assistant position. 

There are three positions available for hire beginning Summer 2026. Each position is expected to work Monday through Friday on a consistent schedule - 8:00am-12:00pm, 11:00am-3:00pm, or 1:00pm-5:00pm. These positions may continue into the next academic year as appropriate after a performance assessment. Summer-only applicants will also be considered. 

Terms of employment:

  • Must be able to work in person Monday through Friday starting Monday, May 18 (20 hours per week).
  • Must be eligible for Graduate Student Employment per UPPS No. 07.07.06.
  • Must be able to work in between semesters.
  • When the university/office is closed on holidays, students will not be working. The time missed can be made up in order to receive full monthly payment within the same month.

Required qualifications:

  • Regularly admitted to graduate degree program
  • Enrollment in nine (9) graduate hours each long semester (fall and spring)
    • Students beginning a program in summer 2026 must enroll in at least three (3) graduate hours
  • Good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA for graduate courses)
  • Competitive English proficiency requirement (minimum TEOFL Speaking 21 [or 4] and Listening 25 [or 5] OR minimum IELTS Speaking 6.5 and Listening 7 - other English Proficiency tests are not considered)
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Able to lift suitcase w/rollers or box with supplies
  • Able to roll bin full of shredding in order to shred documents

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience answering phones
  • Experience working in an office environment
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience working in The Graduate College or other administrative office at TXST

Job responsibilities include a variety of office duties:

  • answering phone calls
  • assisting with walk-ins
  • triaging emails
  • data entry
  • scanning/indexing
  • proofreading
  • shredding
  • assisting with various areas in the office as needed

Work Environment:

Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 20-25 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer and office equipment. Subject to sitting, client/customer contact, standing, walking, vision to monitor, repetitive motion, stooping/kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching to perform essential functions.
