Social Media & Content Creator

Full job description

Overview

We’re looking for someone with a great eye, a curious soul, and flexible hours who wants to spend time on a donkey ranch capturing real moments and turning them into content that moves people. You’ll work independently, float the property when the light’s good, and submit what you find for quick approval before posting. No desk. No 9-to-5. Just donkeys, stories, and a phone or camera.

Oscar’s Place is a GFAS-accredited donkey rescue and sanctuary with 235+ donkeys, a show on ABC stations nationwide (Donkey King), and 500,000+ social media followers. Our content works when it’s real, unpolished, and told in the founder’s voice. We’re bringing content creation in-house to make that happen every day.

This is a 1099 independent contractor role. You choose your hours. We care about output, not schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Walk the ranch daily to observe and identify authentic, unscripted moments worth capturing
  • Capture photos and short-form videos on a phone or camera in real time
  • Write simple, warm, and natural captions that reflect the voice of the founder
  • Submit content via group text for quick approval, then post once approved
  • Execute pre-planned content during Donkey King airing weeks by following provided schedules and assets
  • Maintain consistent posting during off-air periods, including weekly countdown posts and organic ranch content
  • Monitor comments on posts you publish and flag anything that requires team attention

What We’re Looking For

  • You lean in. You’re curious. You notice things other people walk past.
  • You have a good eye — you know what’s worth capturing and what isn’t.
  • You can write simply and warmly. No marketing speak. No fluff.
  • You’re self-directed. You don’t need someone to tell you to go find content.
  • You’re comfortable around animals — donkeys specifically, ideally.
  • You understand social media platforms — Facebook and Instagram primarily.
  • You’re reliable. When you say you’ll post something, it gets posted.

What we’re NOT looking for:

Someone who captures all the content on Friday, writes it all on Saturday, and schedules it to auto-post Sunday through Thursday. We want real, in-the-moment content posted when it happens. If you’re looking for a way to systematize and streamline — this isn’t the role.

The Details

  • Structure: 1099 Independent Contractor
  • Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week — you choose when
  • Rate: $25.00/hour
  • Location: On-site at Oscar’s Place, Hopland, CA — this role cannot be done remotely

A note on hours:

The best content on this ranch happens at 7 AM when the sun comes up over the hills and the donkeys are having breakfast. It also happens at 2 PM when they’re playing. And at sunset. We’d strongly encourage you to spread your hours across different times of day and different days of the week.

Who We Are

Oscar’s Place is not a typical nonprofit. We operate with a sports team standard — every position filled by the person best equipped to do the work. We move fast, we care deeply, and we don’t cut corners on animal care. Ever.

The work here matters. Donkeys live and die based on the capacity we build. The 21 people on this team show up every day because they believe in the mission — not because of the pay. If that’s the kind of place you want to spend your time, we want to meet you.
