Health and Safety Intern
MidAmerican Energy Company is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented college intern to join our Health and Safety team and gain hands-on experience supporting these critical efforts. The intern will assist with the development and maintenance of safety training materials and reports, support the coordination and logistics of safety meetings, training events, and help ensure safety resources are well organized, accessible, and aligned with corporate standards. This role is ideal for a student eager to learn and interested in contributing to meaningful safety initiatives that protect our people and the communities we serve. This position includes some travel/overnight travel within MidAmerican service territory. This position is temporary, nonexempt, and full-time/hourly through the summer.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Safety Inspections Audits and Training
- Assist safety professionals with job site, plant, or facility inspections by observing work practices, documenting hazards, and helping track corrective actions and follow‑up items.
- Assist with Safety Documentation and Programs
- Help review, update, and organize safety programs, procedures, and records (e.g., training logs, hazard assessments, incident reports) to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in Incident Investigations and Data Analysis
- Assist with basic data entry, trending, and analysis of safety metrics (e.g., incidents, near misses, observations) to help identify common hazards or improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
- Must be a college student, sophomore or higher standing, currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Engineering, Safety, Ergonomics, Occupational Safety or a related field.
