Job Description: Physical Education Teacher (Part-time Athletic Director 26-27 SY)

Lebanon Community Unit School District #9 – Lebanon Greyhounds

Position Summary

Lebanon CUSD #9 is seeking a motivated and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to serve students in grades 6–12. The successful candidate will promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness while fostering pride in the Greyhounds school community. Instruction will align with Illinois Learning Standards and support the district’s commitment to academic excellence and whole-child development.

Lebanon CUSD #9 also seeking a dynamic and organized Athletic Director to lead and manage the district’s interscholastic athletic programs for junior high and high school students. The Athletic Director will promote excellence, sportsmanship, and student-athlete development while fostering pride in the Lebanon Greyhounds community. This position ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and supports the district’s mission of developing well-rounded students.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

Develop and deliver standards-based physical education instruction aligned with Illinois Learning Standards for Physical Development and Health

Provide a variety of learning experiences including team sports, individual fitness, recreational activities, and lifetime wellness skills

Incorporate fitness education, goal-setting, and personal wellness into instruction

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners

Student Assessment

Monitor and assess student progress in physical fitness, skill development, and participation

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance

Communicate student progress with families in a timely and professional manner

Learning Environment & Management

Establish clear expectations for behavior, safety, and sportsmanship consistent with Greyhounds values

Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment in gymnasiums, locker rooms, and outdoor spaces

Ensure proper use, organization, and maintenance of equipment and facilities

Student Engagement & Development

Foster teamwork, leadership, and positive peer relationships

Promote school spirit and pride in Lebanon Greyhounds athletics and activities

Encourage lifelong healthy habits and active lifestyles

Adapt activities to support students of varying abilities and needs

Collaboration & School Involvement

Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to support student success

Participate in school events, professional development, and district initiatives

Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues

Extracurricular Involvement

Preference may be given to candidates willing to coach or assist with Greyhounds athletic programs or sponsor student activities

Support and promote interscholastic athletics and school-wide wellness initiatives

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Physical Education endorsement

Knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards and effective instructional practices

Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills

Preferred

Experience teaching middle and/or high school students

Coaching experience or willingness to contribute to Lebanon Greyhounds athletics

CPR/AED and First Aid certification

Compensation & Benefits

Salary and benefits determined by the Lebanon CUSD #9 collective bargaining agreement

Participation in the Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS)
