Job Title: VETERINARIAN Job #1112-1

The County is currently accepting applications for the position of Veterinarian. The Veterinarian provides a medical perspective as part of a management team for the shelter operations, helping to guide policy and procedure for quality of animal care and the overall health of all shelter animals and related work as apparent or assigned; provides veterinary perspective to plan and implement a comprehensive shelter healthcare program; making daily rounds to assess the health of all shelter animals; provides basic health exams, diagnosis, and treatment as necessary; ensures proper sanitation and implements strategies to provide effective disease control; provides environmental enrichment for animals in the shelter; performs and/or supervises humane euthanasia as required; provides medical guidance for a team decision to select animals for euthanasia; maintains completed medical records and drug records required by the Drug Enforcement Agency; works with the team to supervise and coordinate the purchase of all clinic supplies and equipment; supervises disease prevention, education, and training of staff in proper care and analyzing health issues; and holds informational meetings and writes publications for the public on the safety and wellbeing of animals. Performs spay and neuter procedures for age-appropriate animals in the shelter. Good communication and people skills are a must.

Working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Must typically be available for on-call conferencing if needed for emergencies on nights and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Requires considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of veterinary medicine; principles and techniques of animal pathology and of bacteriology; ability to conduct epidemiological surveys, prepare technical reports and make recommendations for programs on prevention; handle with tact, consistency, and sound judgement the diversity of public contacts demanded in consultative services; communicate effectively in oral and written form; and operate standard office equipment including a personal computer and applicable office productivity software.

Requires a Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited college or university. Final transcript showing the date that your degree was awarded and/or any required certificate or licenses must be submitted with your application.
