0. Organization Overview

The Middlesex Squared program is a three-summer, five-week college access program designed to prepare high achieving, first-gen and/or low-income high school scholars for college, with a strong focus on STEM courses, college counseling, community building, and extracurricular activities. 
 

Scholars live and learn at Middlesex School in Concord, MA where they participate in up to six hours of academic classes, followed by the Active Program in the afternoons. The program aims to foster scholars' intellectual, social, and emotional development, promoting independence and responsibility. 
 

I. Role Responsibilities

Residential Assistant Responsibilities

Residential Assistants (RAs) play a critical role in ensuring scholars feel safe, supported, and accountable in the dorm environment. RAs build strong relationships with students, supervise evening routines, and contribute to a positive residential culture grounded in community and care.

In this role, you will:

  • Cultivate a supportive and structured residential environment during study hall, chores, and lights-out.
  • Serve as a consistent presence in the dorm, building relationships with scholars and reinforcing community expectations.
  • Conduct dorm check-ins and room checks to ensure student well-being and provide space for students to voice concerns and reflect on their experience.
  • Oversee alternating weekends of enriching activities that foster community, growth, and camaraderie.
  • Reside in a dormitory room with another RA/TA and share bathroom facilities with scholars.
  • Participate in the residential duty rotation, including:
    • On duty three nights per week
    • On duty for three full weekends throughout the summer session
    • Supporting scholars during evening study hall three nights per week from 7:00pm–9:00pm
  • Chaperone scholars during off-campus excursions, trips, and scheduled outings.
  • Support arrival and departure logistics, including transporting scholars to drop-off points as needed (driving may be required).
  • Share extended coverage responsibilities during the July 4 holiday, as assigned.
  • Actively participate in program-wide events and expectations, including All School Meetings, orientation activities, workshops, and other required staff meetings.
  • Attend and support all required program events and team meetings.
     

Teaching Assistant Responsibilities (as needed)

Teaching Assistants (TAs) support faculty in maintaining a strong academic environment and ensuring scholars feel engaged, challenged, and supported in the classroom.

As needed, you may:

  • Support lead teachers with classroom preparation and instruction.
  • Assist in one class per day by motivating students and supporting academic tasks (approximately 10 hours per week).
  • Lead an after-class activity course in lieu of traditional Teaching Assistant responsibilities, as assigned.

II. Location and Duration

The Middlesex Squared program is conducted on the scenic Middlesex School campus, located in Concord, Massachusetts. The duration of the contract will be from Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, through Sunday, July 26th, 2026.

IV. Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Minimum age of 21 (exception made for juniors who are Squared Affiliate Graduates).
  • Previous RA experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in teaching and/or mentoring scholars.
  • Strong academic background.
  • High stamina and compassion for others.
  • Willing to enthusiastically participate in all mandatory training sessions.

V. Compensation

Our summer staffing model is designed to balance fair pay, role clarity, and long-term program sustainability. This position has a budgeted amount for the full program and reflects the scope and time commitment of the role as designed.

We strive to maintain consistency and equity across our team while keeping the program accessible to students and families.
 

This position is compensated at a flat rate of $3,750 for the full contract period, reflecting the responsibilities and time commitment of the role.
