Overview: Residential Assistant (RA) - Summer Residential STEM Program
Kent Squared is a highly selective, three-summer college access program designed to prepare high school scholars for college success. Our program combines rigorous STEM academics, college counseling, and a structured residential experience that fosters independence, accountability, and community.
Scholars participate in full academic days followed by structured afternoon and evening programming, creating an immersive and transformative environment.
About the Role
The Resident Assistant (RA) is a high-impact, high-responsibility leadership role at the heart of the Kent Squared student experience. RAs serve as mentors, role models, and frontline leaders responsible for student life, safety, and community culture.
This is a fast-paced, demanding residential role that requires strong judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to remain composed under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
Residential Life & Student Support
- Foster a culture of support, accountability, and high expectations in dorms
- Supervise study hall, nightly routines, and lights-out procedures
- Conduct regular dorm check-ins to monitor student well-being and address concerns
- Build strong relationships with scholars while maintaining clear boundaries
Supervision & Programming
- Lead and supervise evening and weekend programming during on-duty shifts
- Chaperone off-campus trips and support major program events
- Be on duty approximately three nights per week and multiple full weekends
Operational Responsibilities
- Live in student dorms with shared facilities
- Support arrival/departure logistics and special program days (including holidays)
- Attend all trainings, meetings, and community events
Teaching Assistant (as needed)
- Support classroom instruction and student learning (~10 hours/week)
- Assist with academic engagement and/or lead an enrichment activity
What This Role Requires (Read Carefully)
This is not a typical summer job. It is an immersive leadership experience that requires:
- High stamina — physically, mentally, and emotionally
- Comfort with long days and limited downtime
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Willingness to step into challenging student situations with professionalism and care
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability
If you are looking for a relaxed or low-commitment summer role, this position will not be a fit.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in progress or completed
- Minimum age of 22 (exceptions for program alumni)
- Experience working with students (teaching, mentoring, coaching, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and leadership
Program Details
- Location: Kent School Campus, Kent, CT
- Dates: July 1 – August 8, 2026 (includes training and orientation)
- Fully residential position (on-site housing required)
