Forestry Internship Program

FORESTRY - AGRICULTURE - FOREST MANAGEMENT - HORTICULUTURE STUDENTS ONLY

Program Overview

ArborGen’s Internship Program is designed to provide hands-on, immersive experience in forestry and sustainable agriculture. Interns gain exposure to all areas of the business, tree orchards, nurseries, greenhouses, product development, and sales, while working alongside professionals in seed and seedling production, propagation, genetics research as well as a team of Reforestation Advisors.  This guide outlines the structure, expectations, rotations, logistics, and overall framework of the ArborGen Internship Program.

Program Duration & Structure

  • Program Length: Four (4) weeks/ 22 days
  • Format: Full-time, in-person
  • Schedule: Standard business hours aligned with host locations
  • Focus: Hands-on experience, cross-functional exposure, and practical application of academic learning
  • The four-week structure is designed to provide interns with meaningful exposure to ArborGen’s operations while maintaining a focused, immersive learning experience.

Rotation Model & Locations

ArborGen will host two interns, each assigned to a defined regional rotation designed to provide broad operational exposure while maintaining geographic efficiency.

 

Southeast Rotation Intern

The Southeast intern will include rotation through a segment of the following locations and functions during any given program:

Corporate Office

Ravenel, SC

Blenheim, SC

Bellville, GA

Shellman, GA

Marianna, FL (Bellemy)

Selma, AL

Southwest Rotation Intern

The Southeast intern will include rotation through a segment of the following locations and functions during any given program:

Bluff City, AR

Bullard, TX

Livingston, TX

Jasper, TX

Nacogdoches, TX

Learning Objectives

Interns will:

  • Gain exposure to ArborGen’s full operational footprint
  • Understand seedling production from research through delivery
  • Participate in real-world projects supporting business operations
  • Develop technical, analytical, and professional skills
  • Learn industry best practices in forestry and sustainable agriculture

Project Work & Responsibilities

Intern responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with nursery and orchard operations
  • Supporting Product Development and research initiatives
  • Participating in data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Shadowing Research Associates and operational leaders
  • Shadowing Reforestation Advisors, visiting customer sites
  • Assignments will vary by location and business need, ensuring meaningful contributions throughout the program.

Supervision & Mentorship

Interns will report to designated site supervisors during each rotation

A primary program contact will coordinate scheduling, travel, and expectations

Mentorship opportunities will be provided through exposure to leaders across regions and functions

Compensation, Housing & Transportation

  • Interns are paid for all hours worked on a biweekly basis 
  • Program stipend for housing, meals, and mileage assistance based on established program guidelines
  • Interns are responsible for securing their own housing for the duration of the internship program. While ArborGen does not provide housing, the Company will offer reasonable support documentation, such as internship verification letters, to assist interns with the rental process when needed.
  • Interns must also have reliable personal transportation for the duration of the program. This includes travel to and from assigned worksites, rotations, and any required program activities, unless traveling with ArborGen personnel as part of a scheduled work activity. Interns should plan accordingly, as ArborGen does not provide daily transportation.

The program may include:

  • Orientation and onboarding
  • Safety training
  • Exposure to ArborGen culture, values, and career paths
  • Opportunities to present learnings or project summaries at program conclusion

Program Outcomes

Upon completion, interns will leave with:

  • Practical, hands-on experience in forestry and agribusiness operations

  • Enhanced readiness for careers in forestry, environmental science, or related fields

Program Flexibility

While this guide outlines the standard program structure, rotations and assignments may be adjusted based on operational needs, weather conditions, or learning opportunities.

Program Wrap-Up & Summary

As part of the conclusion of the internship program, interns will be expected to complete a brief wrap-up deliverable. Interns will prepare a one-page written summary reflecting on their four-week experience, including key learnings, exposure across locations and functions, and overall takeaways from the program. This summary is intended to support reflection, knowledge sharing, and program improvement.
