Reports To: Kaitlyn Kirk, Division Manager of the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Clinical Immunology
Department Summary:
Seeking a Student Assistant to support the UC Davis Van de Water Lab, which works to understand the maternal cellular immune response and the humoral immune response during pregnancy and how dysregulation in these systems relates to neurobehavioral disorders such as autism and schizophrenia. This Student Assistant role will give students the opportunity to work in an interactive research environment and have opportunities for trainees to become independent investigators.
Position Summary:
The position will entail basic lab funcitons such as making buffers. In addition, the assistant will run ELISA assays and perform tissue staining for an animal model of maternal autoantibody related autism.
Key Responsibilities:
1. The student assistant will be able to pipette accurately
2. Weigh chemicals accurately
3. Use a pH meter to determine buffer pH
4. Run ELISA assay accurately using prepared ELISA kit
5. Report results to lab supervisors
Minimum Qualifications: Basic lab skills, mathematical abilities to calculate formulas for buffer preparation and dilutions.
