Middle/High School Humanities

Trinity Academy Portland is seeking a passionate and dedicated full-time Middle/High School Humanities teacher for the 2026-27 academic year. Our ideal candidate demonstrates a love for God, a love for children, a love for teaching, and a passion for learning. 

Trinity Academy is an independent, ecumenical Christian school located in Portland, Oregon serving students in grades 6-12. Trinity Academy follows a rigorous classically-inspired curriculum designed to encourage the discovery of truth, the practice of goodness, and the creation of beauty. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instructional Programs: Plan and implement instructional programs and activities aligned with the school's goals.
  • Community Growth: Contribute to the growth of Trinity Academy’s community of learners.
  • Philosophy: Believe that all students can know truth, create beauty, and practice goodness.
  • Inspiration: Inspire and direct students with a sense of wonder and depth of inquiry.
  • Professional Growth: Strive for continued improvement and professional growth within our community of learners.
  • Communication: Confer with parents, Head of School, and other staff regarding student progress.
  • Quality and Professionalism: Perform tasks with attention to quality, detail, timeliness, and professionalism.
  • Policies and Standards: Respect and uphold school policies and standards.

INSTRUCTION/CURRICULUM

  • Training and Seminars: Participate in training, seminars, and other meetings.
  • Curriculum: Work with Master Teacher to learn the curriculum and methodology of assigned courses.
  • Planning: Plan long-term and short-term instructional objectives.
  • Teaching Strategies: Use a variety of appropriate teaching strategies, materials, and modes to accommodate different learning styles. Incorporate interventions and accommodations as necessary.
  • Classroom Management: Demonstrate sound professional teaching and classroom management skills.
  • Safe Environment: Maintain an appropriate and safe learning environment.

TEACHER/STUDENT RELATIONSHIPS

  • Love for God and Learning: Display genuine love for God, scripture, and learning.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Deliver Trinity Academy’s curriculum effectively.
  • Discipline: Maintain discipline and good order in the classroom.
  • Feedback: Provide timely and adequate feedback on students' work.
  • Achievement Encouragement: Encourage students to strive for high achievement and become agents of their own education.
  • Orientation: Assist with student orientation and its implementation.

TEACHER/PARENT RELATIONSHIPS

  • Feedback: Provide frequent and effective feedback to parents concerning learning goals.
  • Communication: Initiate and maintain communication with parents, viewing them as primary teachers.
  • Commitment: Express a commitment to teaching and nurturing their child.
  • Issues: Communicate with parents about academic or disciplinary issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees preferred.
  • Experience: Teaching experience preferred.
  • Subject Mastery: Demonstrated ability to teach well and mastery of subject matters.
  • Christian Faith: Credible profession of personal Christian faith and Godly character.
  • Church Attendance: Regular attendance at a local church whose beliefs are consistent with the Nicene Creed.
  • Teaching Gift: Demonstrated gift of teaching and a high calling to work with youth.
  • Self-Educator: Commitment to being a lifetime learner.
  • Communication Skills: Well-spoken with excellent grammar, diction, and vocabulary.
  • Mission Alignment: Understanding of and agreement with Trinity Academy’s mission, philosophy, and pedagogy.
  • Emotional Stability: Maturity and emotional stability.
  • Heart for Students: Strong desire to see students learn well, know God, and love God.
