Construction Management Internship

About the Program

Metcalf’s 12-week Construction Management Internship is designed to provide interns with well-rounded, hands-on experience across both field operations and preconstruction/estimating. Interns will gain real-world exposure to how projects are planned, executed, and delivered from start to finish.

This rotational program offers:

  • 6 weeks in the field under a Senior Superintendent
  • 6 weeks in the office with the Preconstruction Team

By the end of the internship, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the full project lifecycle—from early budgeting and planning through on-site execution and closeout.

Field Rotation (6 Weeks)

Mentor: Senior Superintendent

Interns will:

  • Learn the day-to-day responsibilities of a Superintendent
  • Observe and support jobsite communication and coordination
  • Assist with logistics and subcontractor scheduling
  • Participate in quality control processes
  • Learn construction site safety standards and compliance requirements
  • Gain exposure to project documentation and reporting

This rotation provides hands-on experience in active construction environments and introduces interns to leadership in field operations.

Office Rotation – Preconstruction (6 Weeks)

Mentor: Preconstruction Team Leadership

Interns will:

  • Assist with estimating fundamentals and quantity takeoffs
  • Review drawings and specifications
  • Support subcontractor bid coordination
  • Participate in budget development and cost analysis
  • Learn value engineering concepts
  • Observe the planning and bidding process for upcoming projects

This portion of the internship provides critical insight into how projects are developed before construction begins.

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong interest in commercial construction
