Position Description

BBB Pathways is seeking a dedicated US History & Government Instructor to lead our Regents Test Prep course for high school students. The instructor will provide focused instruction on American history, civics, and government to prepare students for the NYS US History and Government Regents examination.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver lessons aligned with the NYS US History & Government Regents curriculum.
  • Cover major topics including colonial America, the Constitution, Reconstruction, the Civil Rights Movement, U.S. foreign policy, and contemporary governance.
  • Build students’ document analysis, civic literacy essay, and multiple-choice exam skills.
  • Administer practice Regents exams and lead structured review sessions.
  • Create and distribute review materials including timelines, outlines, and primary source documents.
  • Monitor student progress using formative assessments and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Provide individualized feedback and additional support to students in need.
  • Maintain attendance and performance records and submit documentation on time.
  • Promote an inclusive, respectful, and academically focused classroom culture.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in American History, Political Science, Social Studies Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching US History or preparing students for the NYS US History & Government Regents.
  • Solid command of U.S. history content and the Regents exam format, including the Civic Literacy Essay.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
  • Strong classroom facilitation and student engagement skills.
  • Ability to connect historical content to students’ contemporary experiences.

 

Preferred

  • NYS Teaching Certification in Social Studies (or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering DBQ and civic literacy essay instruction.
  • Familiarity with project-based or inquiry-based learning approaches.
