Community Development Internship
The City of High Point's Community Development internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a local government setting while supporting the Community Development & Housing team. Interns will assist with daily operations, contribute to special projects, and conduct research that supports departmental goals and community initiatives.
Throughout the internship, students will gain exposure to key areas such as community and neighborhood engagement, housing development, zoning and permitting processes, and GIS mapping. This experience provides insight into how these functions work together to support community growth.
This position is ideal for students pursuing degrees in planning, public administration, or related fields who are interested in careers in public service. Interns will develop transferable skills while gaining a broader understanding of local government operations.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Are currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, Urban Studies, GIS, or a related field
- Have familiarity with GIS software (preferred)
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for report preparation and team collaboration
- Have an interest in local government and community development
