Financial Management Analyst

About the Role

We are sourcing early-career financial management talent for a permanent federal civilian position supporting Department of Defense accounting and financial systems operations. This is a developmental Financial Management Analyst role on the GS-0501 ladder, with a clear non-competitive promotion path to the GS-11 full performance level once qualifications and performance benchmarks are met.

You will join an organization that handles field-level accounting, civilian pay management, financial systems support, and CFO-level financial reporting. The work matters. Every transaction you touch ties back to how a major federal organization manages its money, closes its books, and meets its statutory reporting obligations.

This is a strong launching point for anyone who wants a federal finance career with a defined growth path, formal certification investment, and exposure to the full lifecycle of federal funds management.

What You'll Do

As a developmental Financial Management Analyst, you will:
- Process a high volume of financial transactions across general funds and revolving funds
- Perform analysis and reconciliation on assigned funds and accounts
- Identify root causes when transactions or balances do not align, then take corrective action
- Apply procedural guidelines, audit plans, and accounting standards to assigned work
- Prepare budget estimates for assigned object classes or line items
- Adjust automated billing for reimbursable transactions
- Support CFO financial statements and managerial accounting reporting
- Work under structured supervision while building independent judgment over time

Qualifications — You Can Qualify Multiple Ways

Per OPM standards for the 0501 series at the GS-07 level, you can qualify based on education, experience, or a combination of both. You do not need all of them.

Option 1 — Education (Superior Academic Achievement)
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, plus one of the following:
- Class standing in the upper third of your graduating class or major subdivision
- GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for all completed undergraduate coursework, or for coursework completed in the final two years
- GPA of 3.5 or higher in your major, overall or in the final two years
- Membership in a national scholastic honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies (excluding freshman honor societies)

Option 2 — Education (Graduate Study)
One full academic year of graduate-level education in a related field such as accounting, finance, business administration, economics, public administration, or a related discipline.

Option 3 — Specialized Experience
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is work that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Examples include processing financial transactions, performing account reconciliations, supporting budget execution, or applying accounting principles in a structured work environment.

Option 4 — Combination
A combination of graduate education and specialized experience that together meet 100 percent of the requirement.

In Plain Terms
If you graduated with a strong GPA, you qualify. If you have a year of grad school in a relevant field, you qualify. If you have a year of hands-on financial work at the GS-05 equivalent level, you qualify. Pick the path that fits you.
