Assistant Superintendent Instruction
Position Overview: The Assistant Superintendent for Instruction provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for the district's instructional program across all grade levels, PreK–12. This position is responsible for ensuring a cohesive, high-quality curriculum and instructional program aligned with New York State learning standards and district goals. The Assistant Superintendent works collaboratively with district and building leaders to support teaching and learning, promote continuous improvement, and ensure equitable educational opportunities for all students.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership:
- Provides visionary, outcome-focused leadership, leveraging data to guide and elevate the district's instructional programs across all grade levels.
- Ensures seamless vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with New York State learning standards, district priorities, and insights derived from rigorous data analysis.
- Leads the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of district-wide curriculum and instructional initiatives to ensure coherence, quality, and impact.
- Promotes and sustains the use of evidence-based instructional practices that enhance student engagement, equity, and achievement.
- Supports the effective implementation of a district-wide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and aligned intervention frameworks, with a strong emphasis on high-quality Tier 1 instruction as the foundation for student success.
Curriculum and Assessment:
- Leads the strategic design, ongoing review, and continuous refinement of district curriculum to ensure strong alignment with state standards, district priorities, and data-driven insights.
- Provides oversight for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of balanced formative and summative assessment systems.
- Establishes and sustains a systematic approach to monitoring student performance data, using findings to drive instructional decision-making and program enhancement.
- Ensures full compliance with all state and federal accountability requirements while promoting a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.
Data Analysis & School Improvement
- Leads ongoing, systematic district-wide data analysis to identify trends, uncover gaps, and drive targeted, continuous improvement efforts.
- Partners with building leaders to design, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive school improvement plans aligned with district priorities and student performance data.
- Regularly communicates clear, data-informed insights and instructional updates to the Board of Education and key stakeholders, fostering transparency and shared accountability for student success.
Grants and Program Management:
- Provides strategic leadership in the identification, development, and management of federal, state, and private grant opportunities to advance district priorities.
- Ensures rigorous oversight of grant-funded programs, monitoring compliance, evaluating effectiveness, and aligning outcomes with district goals and strategic initiatives.
Professional Development:
- Leads the design, implementation, and continuous refinement of a comprehensive professional development plan aligned with data-driven district priorities and student outcomes.
- Builds and sustains instructional leadership capacity across principals, teachers, and instructional staff through targeted coaching, support, and development opportunities.
- Cultivates a culture of collaboration by promoting high-functioning professional learning communities and shared instructional practices.
- Engages in ongoing professional learning to remain current with emerging trends, research-based methodologies, and best practices, including active participation in workshops, seminars, and professional forums such as Leadership Council and the Summer Administrative Institute.
Supervision and Evaluation:
- Supervises and evaluates building principals, instructional leaders, and assigned central office staff, fostering accountability and professional growth.
- Ensures the consistent, accurate, and meaningful implementation of teacher and administrator evaluation systems in alignment with state requirements and district priorities.
- Provides targeted coaching, mentorship, and support to administrators to strengthen instructional leadership and improve student outcomes.
