Camp Counselor Internship

This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that supports professional and career development. Through their time at Camp Royall, interns will:

  • Develop professional communication skills by working with campers, families, and a multidisciplinary team, while adapting communication styles to meet a variety of needs.
  • Strengthen Teamwork abilities by collaborating with staff, and contributing to a supportive team environment.
  • Apply behavior support and problem-solving strategies in real-time situations, learning how to respond to challenges with flexibility, critical thinking, and effective de-escalation techniques.
  • Gain experience in program facilitation by helping plan, lead, and adapt activities that are engaging, structured, and appropriate for a range of abilities.
  • Build knowledge and practical skills in supporting individuals with autism, including understanding sensory needs, communication differences, and strategies that promote independence and inclusion.
  • Enhance safety awareness and risk management skills by maintaining appropriate supervision, following safety protocols, and responding effectively in a residential camp setting.
  • Develop transferable career skills such as time management, organization, adaptability, professionalism, and accountability in a fast-paced environment.

This experience is especially valuable for students pursuing careers in fields such as education, psychology, social work, recreation therapy, healthcare, and other helping professions

Room and Board Included: Enjoy on-site living with all your meals provided during training week and programming, so you can focus on the experience.

Weekly Stipend: Ranging from $350 - $500 per week depending on experience.

What You’ll Do:

Support & Supervise: Assist campers with activities such as dressing, grooming, and toileting, while using visual and behavioral strategies to improve communication and behavior.

Create a Fun Environment: Foster a positive, supportive atmosphere where every camper can thrive and have a great time.

What We’re Looking For:

Age Requirement: Must be 18+ with a high school diploma.

Passion & Willingness: A genuine interest in learning about autism and understanding diverse communication.

Physical & Emotional Readiness: Ability to supervise campers effectively and manage all responsibilities with care.

Personal Qualities: Bring your patience, energy, sense of humor, flexibility, and teamwork skills.

Important Dates:

  • Move-In Day: May 19, 2025
  • Staff Training: May 19-29
  • First Half: June 1-June 26 (4 Weeks)
  • Second Half: July 5- August 8 (5 Weeks)
  • Staff Celebration: August 8
