Graduate Assistantship in Linguistics
Graduate Assistantship Responsibilities:
Provide 20 hours of service per week over the course of both fall and winter semesters. Applicants must be a graduate student in the Masters program in Linguistics at Oakland University. Duties: Assist with managing departmental general education courses. Assist Linguistics chair, staff and instructors with special projects and duties within the unit. Tutor Linguistics students. Assist instructors with instruction/grading processes for LIN/ALS and or TESOL programs.
Job Description:
Graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) have a primary responsibility in an instructional capacity. They provide 20 hours of instructional services per week over the course of a semester. Services provided by a graduate teaching assistant may include lecturing in undergraduate level course, leading discussion groups, serving as assistants to laboratory classes, grading tests and papers, scheduling professor time, lesson planning, answering student questions, or making a syllabus. A TA can preform any ancillary duty that would otherwise fall to the professor.
Qualifications:
Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted and enrolled for at least 8 credits for the academic year in a graduate program. Graduate course work and/or research must contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must have and maintain good academic standing (3.00 grade point average).
Tuition:
Tuition (eight credits per semester or a total of 16 credits) will be compensated. Any additional credits and class fees, including books, will be the responsibility of the student.
Compensation:
Student will receive a pay check (via direct deposit if desired) on the last business day or each month for the duration of the assistantship.
