ABOUT THE POSITION

The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of our academic approach of Language, Literacy, and the Arts (ALL) in our classroom through the alignment of our curriculum and our instructional approaches. The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment is responsible for designing the professional learning experiences for all teaching staff. This position collaborates with the central academic team members to further develop a robust coaching program that is aligned to MPCS’ instructional priorities.

This 12-month position reports to the Chief Academic Officer and collaborates with school and network-based leadership team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead Curriculum and Instruction Strategies

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of PK-8 curriculum alignment in all content areas 
  • Provide guidance to teachers and leaders on developing instructional materials that are aligned to the academic strategy, instructional vision, CCSS, and equity 
  • Evaluate and implement cycles of continuous review of identified and selected instructional materials to ensure alignment to the schools’ adopted curriculum and academic strategy 
  • Coordinate the selection, purchase, and implementation of new curricular and instructional materials
  • Identify, develop, and lead effective adoption of PK-8 instructional practices that are aligned across campuses 
  • Observe instructional delivery in order to provide school leaders with feedback on trends and opportunities for coaching and professional learning 
  • Create curriculum guides and materials prepared for distribution to instructional staff. Oversee and supervise the creation of professional learning systems, structures, and routine

Lead Assessment Strategy

  • Oversee the development and coordination of a PK-8 assessment strategy 
  • With support from principals, lead the adoption and administration of comprehensive reading assessments 
  • Oversee the instructional data cycle, including adoption of formative and summative assessments and development of student work analysis protocols, data analysis meeting structures, and creation of the instruction and assessment calendar 
  • Serve as liaison between assessment partners and vendors 
  • In collaboration with other leaders, develop a plan for the state’s summative assessment administration (CAPE/Smarter Balance). 
    Serve as liaison between the OSSE and the LEA for the administration of state assessments

Guide and Support Student Learning Experiences

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of PK-8 signature student learning experiences that are aligned to the the academic approach (ALL), curriculum, graduate profile, college and career and readiness, and the school’s vision and mission 
  • Develop outcomes and systems of measurement that support an understanding of the effectiveness of signature learning experiences to the established outcomes

Coordinate Professional Learning

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of a cross-campus professional development strategy for teaching staff
  • Develop cross-campus professional development for teachers that are aligned to the academic strategy 
  • Develop and implement teacher Data-Driven Instruction (DDI) cycles of inquiry for teachers
  • Promote the development of professional learning that supports teachers in understanding the intersection of equity, social justice, and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
  • Provide guidance to leaders on developing campus-based professional learning that is aligned to the academic strategy, instructional vision, CCSS, equity, and social justice 
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement cycles of continuous review of identified and selected instructional materials to ensure alignment to the schools’ adopted curriculum and academic strategy
  • Support principals and school leaders to observe teachers and offer feedback to instructional leaders on professional development and coaching effective instructional practices
  • Create professional learning guides and materials prepared for distribution to instructional staff
  • Lead the creation of professional learning systems, structures, and routines for teaching staff

Develop and Support Aligned Coaching Program

  • Develop and coordinate a coaching strategy for all teaching staff
  • Develop professional learning systems, structures, and calendars
  • Develop data analysis meeting and planning meeting structures
  • Develop student work analysis protocols and structures 
  • Develop and maintain professional learning calendar
  • Support the creation of the instruction and assessment calendar

Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer or his/her/their designee. 

QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal candidates will have the following education and experience:

  • A bachelor’s or advanced degree in curriculum and instruction, education administration, education leadership, or other relevant field 
  • 5-10 years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, and supervision or school leadership 
  • Commitment to the Meridian mission and core values 
  • Experience designing and building systems and managing through the change management process, including addressing setbacks and maintaining focus in the face of competing priorities 
  • Demonstrated strength in balancing strategy with application and big picture thinking with minute details 
  • Experience working independently toward goals, communicating effectively with colleagues, and engaging in 360-degree feedback processes 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple high-profile and complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment 
  • Meticulous detail orientation, organization, and time management 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing engaging and impactful communications, presentations, and training         
  • Track record for developing positive, empathetic, and productive relationships with colleagues and customers punctuated by grace, competence, and warmth 
  • Proficiency with Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite

Additional Skills

 

  • Knowledge of the DC Charter Schools landscape
  • Ability to read graphs, charts, and dashboards that report academic data 
  • Experience with Whetstone, Achievement Network, iReady  
  • Understanding of the Common Core State Standards
  • Ability to analyze student data in order to drive targeted instructional outcomes for students 
  • Knowledge of NWEA MAP, CAPE/Smarter Balance/Achievement Network, and MCLASS assessments is a plus 
  • State-issued administrator license or license eligible preferred 
  • Oral and/or written proficiency in Spanish is highly preferred

Salary range:  $102,000 - $115,000.

Meridian staff members also have opportunities to earn additional income through leadership projects and other school-based initiatives.
