Photography Lab Technician
The Photography Lab Technician assists the Photography Lab Manager with overseeing and monitoring the Photography Labs for the College of Art & Design's Photography program. This position reports directly to the Photography Lab Manager. The starting pay rate is $10/hr.
Essential Duties
- Responsible for renting photography equipment to students; helps to maintain proper function of rental and lab equipment.
- Assists in maintaining inventory of equipment.
- Ensures that chemical and ink inventory is accurate.
- Provides technical assistance to students: including but not limited to procedures for processing film and prints in the darkroom, digital printing, and scanning film.
- Provides technical assistance with alternative processes as needed.
- Provides assistance to students with print finishing, display, and lighting studio.
- Ensures that policies and procedures are followed throughout the photography area including: Darkroom, Lighting Studio, Print Labs, and Classrooms.
- Assists professors and students during and after class times by answering questions, reiterating lab procedures, and any other information that is needed.
- Prepares the labs and classrooms before each use and ensures the labs and classrooms are cleaned up after use.
Qualifications
- Photography Majors preferred, though previous experience with photography and/or darkroom will be considered as well
- Familiarity with the operation of B&W darkroom enlargers, B&W film processing, photography lighting equipment, analog and digital photography, Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Teams, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Basic computer knowledge and excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
