Behavioral Health Therapist

Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services

The Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Health Therapist to join our team. As a Behavioral Health Therapist, you will deliver individual, family, and group therapy in an outpatient setting, working from a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center or from one of our satellite locations, which may include local schools and pediatrician offices. You will manage a progressively complex caseload, utilizing advanced clinical interviewing techniques to assess needs, develop treatment plans, and coordinate care with appropriate resources.

This role is part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team committed to treating a wide range of behavioral, mental health, and substance use concerns. Supervision and clinical support are provided under the guidance of a Clinic Director.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the intake and screening of new clients, evaluating patient’s physical and/or psychological concerns as related to need for therapy;
  • Consults with staff and supervisor on techniques to manage presenting behavior issues;
  • Conducts individual assessments and other individual interviews;
  • Provides behavioral therapy/social work/counseling services to help clients adjust to their presenting problems, diagnoses, and related social drivers of health;
  • Provides individual, group and family therapy services utilizing evidence-based therapy approaches;
  • Compiles client charts, and case summaries with appropriate data from various sources such as professional staff and clients’ families to establish an overall approach to the solution of the clients’ behavioral health and social problems;
  • Tracks and monitors client progress, collaborating with clients to develop treatment goals and plan, regularly reviewing and updating as needed;
  • Documents all assessments, treatment sessions, contact, crisis interventions and other work done on behalf of clients, according to guidelines of NYS Office of Mental Health and NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports;
  • Participates in the discharge planning with community agencies to relate the patient’s treatment and rehabilitation program to the social and work situation;
  • Maintains a caseload and engages clients in treatment with follow up, discharging those not active in treatment;
  • Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team;
  • Maintains information on community resources which can be utilized during the client’s care/discharge and coordinates treatment with other human service agencies;
  • Refers clients to other services/agencies as appropriate and participates in the transfer process of clients to other levels of care;
  • Provides clinical information to billing personnel to ensure authorization for service.
  • Maintains timely treatment documentation in accordance with current regulations of a Certified Clinical Behavioral Health Clinic, licensed by the NYS Office of Mental Health and NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports;
  • Coordinates various activity and treatment programs with social agencies;
  • Collects and maintains appropriate data for administrative and clinical purposes. This position is being filled on a provisional basis pending the outcome of a future dated Civil Service examination for this title.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or closely related field from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
