Job Description: Upward Bound summer teachers develop and teach curriculum for one of the core classes offered: Science.  Teachers will teach one block class two days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday)during the six-week summer program.  Students in each class will have students entering 9th grade through students entering 12th grade.  This is a part-time, non-benefited position. 

Responsibilities 

• Plan course work and instruction to meet the criteria for the Upward Bound Summer Component
• Develop and maintain class lesson plans and syllabi
• Develop and implement class evaluation tools
• Provide weekly feedback on student progress during the summer component and share concerns during weekly teacher meeting with UB Director and Academic Coordinator.
• At the end of the summer program, provide the UB Director with a summer progress report which includes a final summer course grade
• Monitor, record and report student daily attendance and effort rating scores
• Utilize class academic tutors to assist in lesson plans and activity implementation
• Maintain a controlled and quiet classroom environment conducive to learning. Enforce UB consequences for students who do not abide by class rules
• Instill in students the idea of being respectful in class- no sleeping, being on time, completing work, no phones, no music players, active class participation
• Is supervised by the UB Director 

Minimum Qualifications

• Teaching experience with college or high school aged students
• Experience developing and delivering curriculum. 
• Experience working with youth 

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional teaching experience;
• Experience working with low-income and/or future first-generation college students;
• Experience in collaborative and cross-disciplinary activities 

Work Location: North Dakota State University 

Hours & Schedule: Instructor will work 15 hours a week between June 16th through July 17th. Instructors will teach two days a week, working directly with students (5 hours), plus 10 hours of planning/prep/grading each week.  Instructors will also work up to 20 hours a week, June 1-June 15 to prep their class curriculum and syllabi.
