Position Requirements and Qualifications: Student at UW-Eau Claire with at least one year of school remaining. Must possess organizational skills, ability to manage time and work with volunteers and ability to work with Chamber members, committees and staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working with Microsoft Office (including Word, Xcel and PowerPoint) and ability to be a team player. Knowledge of local, state and federal politics is helpful but not necessary.

Primary Responsibilities: Work with the Director of Advocacy to assist in the Chamber’s governmental and policy programs and projects. Work as a team member and carry out responsibilities as directed.

Specific Duties

  1. Assist in logistical planning for the Annual Chippewa Valley Rally trip to Madison.
  2. Work with the Director of Advocacy to identify relevant issues to the business community and update the Chamber blog.
  3. Work closely with an additional intern to divide tasks, identify areas with which the advocacy pillar can be strengthened, and think outside the box regarding ways to expand services for our investors. 
  4. Legislative and policy researching skills to provide background and preparation for events, podcasts, and other communication initiated by the Chamber.
  5. Assist in planning and organizing events such as Eggs and Issues, Chippewa Valley Rally, Candidate Forums, Local Candidate Training Workshops.
  6. Update the Public Meetings Calendar on the Chamber website each month
  7. Attend and take notes on Governmental Affairs Committee meetings and other City and County meetings (schedule allowing) and provide short write-ups following the meeting to summarize progress made.
  8. Brainstorm and innovate educational initiatives to share information about candidates on upcoming ballots. 
  9. Duties will vary by project, and will include such functions as issues research, writing, administrative assistance, and member contact in ways which move Chamber projects forward and provide helpful work experience for the intern. 

Secondary Responsibilities: 

  1. Operate office equipment, including computer and Microsoft Office. 
  2. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the president of the Chamber.

Salary and Benefits:  The standard rate of pay is $10/hour. The Chamber will assist the intern with earning college credit, if desired.
