Economic Development Coordinator

Job Description

Title: Economic Development Coordinator
Reports to: Chief Economic Development Officer

 

Position Summary:
The Economic Development Coordinator supports the Birmingham Business Alliance’s job creation efforts across the Greater Birmingham Region. This is a role for someone who is curious by nature, proactive by habit, and eager to grow within an organization doing meaningful work for our community. The Coordinator turns information into actionable insights that enable our team and partners to better attract, recruit, and retain businesses — and for the right person, it serves as a foundation for broader project leadership within the BBA over time.

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • Provides support to the BBA Economic Development Division, site consultants, real estate professionals, elected officials, etc. to better assist with the job creation processes
  • Coordinates and plans business prospect visits, respond to new business inquiries, prepare prospect proposals and produce compelling collateral pieces to support economic development initiatives (e.g. slide decks, marketing materials, requests for information, requests for proposals and research on behalf of the organization)
  • Maintains and generates weekly, quarterly and yearly project activity reports using Salesforce CRM and produce meaningful, qualitative summaries to share with partners
  • Builds relationships with key stakeholders to build and maintain inventory of regional site/building properties listed on state-wide databases to advance our competitive edge
  • Partners with Market Intelligence team to evaluate economic, statistical and demographic data to analyze best means to attract, retain or expand businesses and/or industries within the Greater Birmingham Region
  • Manages the Birmingham Regional Economic Development Allies (REDA) group, which unites top economic development leaders throughout the region through bimonthly programming 
  • Plans and executes at least five “Made in BHM” events, a group uniting young, Birmingham-based professionals in economic development through bimonthly gatherings
  • Serves as the Secretary of the City of Birmingham’s Industrial Development Board and is responsible for meeting scheduling as well as the compiling and distribution of project packets, meeting minutes, agendas and public meeting notices
  • Supports Economic Development Division by assisting with outbound, inbound and industry specific events

 

Other

  • Demonstrate value to clients and use existing relationships to support the investor relations team with prospecting and onboarding new investors
  • Accurately complete monthly expense, mileage and timekeeping reports and submit them on time 
  • Accurately complete CRM entries related to projects, companies, consultations, assists, etc. and submit them on time
  • Operate within the role and department budget
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications

  • 0–3 years of professional experience; prior exposure to economic development, public policy, real estate, or a related field is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, urban planning, public administration, or a related field required
  • This is a full-time, in-office position with some local and regional travel required for events, site visits, and partner meetings
