Software Testing Intern Job Description

Job Summary 

A Software Testing Intern at Thaddeus will assist the technology development teams (Mobile & Web), execute test cases, report defects, and verify fixes for our web and mobile platforms. The interns will develop and refine test cases for new features or updates. The intern will learn and utilize our defect tracking system to document and report defects. 

The Software Testing Intern will receive direct supervision from the Scrum Master and Tech Department Supervisor and will get the chance to work in a self-organized team setting in the Tech Department. 

This internship is unpaid, but eligible for academic or course credit if approved by your educational institution. 

 

Internships are yearlong appointments.  

The intern is expected to work approximately 15 hours a week.   

Attendance is required at a 2-hour long All Staff Meeting on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM PST and a 2-hour long department meeting on Thursdays at 10:00 AM PST. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties 

Testing and Evaluation 60%  

  • Assist in Testing Activities: Help the tech development teams (Mobile & Web) execute test cases, report defects, and verify fixes for our web and mobile platforms. 
  • Test Case Development: Develop and refine test cases for new features or updates. 
  • Defect and Bug Reporting: Learn and utilize our defect tracking system to document and report defects. 
  • Automation Testing Introduction: Assist in basic automation testing tasks using existing frameworks. 
  • Exploratory Testing: Conduct exploratory testing sessions under supervision to identify usability and functional issues. 

Documentation and Feedback 35%  

  • Process Documentation: Contribute to updating testing documentation and wikis. 
  • Learning and Feedback: Regularly receive feedback and engage in learning sessions to enhance your testing skills and knowledge. 

Other duties as assigned 5%  

 

Qualifications 

Required:    

  1. Commitment to supporting and respecting Thaddeus’ Christian mission, values, and faith‑centered environment. 
  2. Active enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (Senior or Graduate level) OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience  
  3. Basic programming knowledge, understanding of software testing concepts, and familiarity with testing methodologies (Agile, Scrum) 
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  5. Demonstrated confidentiality, dependability, and enthusiasm  
  6. Ability and desire to learn new skills quickly  
  7. Ability to analyze and understand disparate pieces of information from a variety of sources   
  8. Excellent time management  
  9. Demonstrated experience in working successfully with teams   
  10. Ability to work independently with little instruction and a strong attention to detail   
  11. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)   
  12. Access to appropriate technology, internet connection and ability to function in a virtual capacity via Microsoft Teams   

Preferred:    

  1. Participation in coding or testing projects (personal or academic) 
  2. Basic knowledge of mobile and web technologies 

 

Work Environment 

All activities for the Intern use remote access using Microsoft Teams. Interns are required to have a computer compatible with this software. Thaddeus makes every effort to hold interactive group meetings to foster communication and teamwork using remote workspaces.   

 

Learning Objectives 

  1. The Intern will gain hands-on experience with multiple components within the software testing process. 
  2. The Intern will learn best practices regarding test case development, exploratory testing, and verification of solutions. 
  3. The Intern will be guided by department leaders and fellow team members to utilize existing systems for defect tracking and automation testing. 
  4. The Intern will gain experience in functioning as part of a team while 100% remote, using connectivity software and a variety of meeting software tools.
