Lead GSRP Teacher

The Lead GSRP Teacher plays a central role in creating a warm, engaging, and developmentally rich classroom environment for preschool children. This position leads instructional planning, ensures fidelity to GSRP requirements, partners closely with families, and supports a collaborative teaching team. The ideal candidate is passionate about early learning, skilled in intentional teaching practices, and committed to equity and high quality outcomes for all children.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and implement daily learning experiences aligned with GSRP standards and the approved curriculum (e.g., High Scope, Creative Curriculum).
  • Use developmentally appropriate practices to support children’s cognitive, social emotional, physical, and language development.
  • Conduct ongoing child assessment using approved tools and use data to individualize instruction.
  • Maintain a well organized, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that supports active learning.

Child Assessment & Documentation

  • Complete all required GSRP assessments, anecdotal notes, and checkpoints within established timelines.
  • Monitor child progress and adjust instruction based on data.
  • Prepare documentation for home visits, conferences, and program reporting.

Family Engagement

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with families.
  • Conduct two home visits and two parent teacher conferences per year.
  • Communicate regularly with families about classroom activities, child progress, and ways to support learning at home.

Compliance & Program Quality

  • Ensure full compliance with GSRP guidelines, licensing rules, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, health, and safety records.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor the Associate Teacher and classroom support staff.
  • Model best practices in instruction, classroom management, and child engagement.
  • Collaborate with site leadership, support staff, and community partners.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and coaching sessions.
  • Collaborate with local ISD by attending professional development days and using staff for qualified services

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development OR a related field with a valid Michigan ZA/ZS endorsement or equivalent.
  • Meets all GSRP Lead Teacher credential requirements.
  • Experience working with preschool aged children in a licensed or school based setting.
  • Ability to pass all background checks and health requirements.

Preferred

  • Experience in a GSRP or state funded preschool program.
  • Knowledge of curriculums (C4L, High scope, or Teaching Strategies) and assessment.
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive teaching.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Active engagement with children, including sitting on the floor, lifting up to 40 lbs., and participating in indoor/outdoor activities.
  • Ability to maintain classroom safety and supervision at all times.
