JOB ANALYSIS
Responsible for overseeing the implementation of Building Special Education services in accordance with the current NH Standards, School Policies and any updated changes in the law.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Ensures Building compliance with IDEA, RSA 186-C, NH Regulations pertaining to children with disabilities.
- Ensure district compliance and timely data collection for SPP indicators, NHSEIS, IEP progress monitoring.
- Act as building level LEA as authorized by Director of Pupil Services.
- Provides technical assistance/direction in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, programs, instructional services, and assistive technology arena.
- Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction and furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the building/district program.
- Studies and evaluates, and, as appropriate, recommends adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and programs in coordination with the Director of Pupil Services, and assists in budget preparation for newly approved and existing instructional programs as related to instructional supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Collaborates with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level and departmental meetings, to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the district. Communicates the approved curriculum to the professional staff.
- Provides staff leadership to ensure understanding of and to promote the educational goals of the building/district and plans and administers programs of in-service educational activities for instructional personnel.
- Guides development, implementation, and evaluation of orientation and in-service training for professional personnel.
- Assists in the screening, hiring, training, and assigning of special education personnel.
- Acts as a resource and provides oversight for all building/district IEP/SPED teams.
- Collaborates with building principals to review and evaluate the teaching staff to improve individual staff competencies.
- Directs creation of and edits for publication all materials prepared by SPED Staff, and to be distributed among, the parents, instructional staff and building principals.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned.
- Participates in the formal teacher evaluation and observation process.
- Assists in preparing annual special education budget requests.
- Assists in the refinement of existing in-district programs.
- Attends building level team meetings on request, as well as on a regular non-scheduled basis.
- Plans in-service programs for general regular and special education teachers.
- Develops and /or expands parent support groups at all levels.
- Meets with and assists in the supervision and training of Special Education Department paraprofessionals.
- Assists in responding to concerns/complaints.
- Conducts needs assessment activities and participates in long range planning activities.
- Coordinates, prepares and manages public relation and outreach activities to inform the public of the role and responsibility of Special Education.
- Knowledge and implementation of lockdown procedures, fire drills, emergency backpacks to ensure a safe school environment.
- Updates/educates in-district administrative personnel regarding legal issues/advisories in special education process.
- Performs such other duties as the principal may assign.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in the field of Special Education specialization; additional advanced study appropriate to pupil services is desirable, hold or be eligible for NH certification as a Special Education Administrator, five years of experience in the field of Special Education, and such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
220 days (Elem & MS) 230 days (HS) schedule set by Director of Pupil Services. Refer to the contract between the Londonderry School Board and the position holder.
