The Gamut School is looking to hire an associate teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. We are the first middle school based on the philosophy of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Job description:
We are seeking an emotionally attuned, reflective, and student-centered Therapeutic Learning Associate who is passionate about supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of adolescents. This role is ideal for candidates interested in gaining experience in therapeutic education settings, deepening their understanding of adolescent mental health, or exploring Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in practice.
Responsibilities
- Support the head teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate, student-centered lessons
- Help create a classroom environment that fosters emotional growth, behavioral skill building, and reinforces therapy skills
- Collaborate with the team in weekly clinical consultation meetings to discuss safety, risk, diagnoses, and treatment
- Assist students in identifying emotions, practicing regulation strategies, and building interpersonal effectiveness
- Model grounded, compassionate responses to student needs
- Participate in training and professional development related to DBT, trauma-informed care, and adolescent development
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in education, psychology, human development, or a related field (required)
- Eligible for or interested in pursuing NYS Teacher Certification in Students with Disabilities Grades 1–6 (preferred)
- At least 1 year of youth-facing experience or teaching (school, camp, tutoring, residential, or clinical settings)
- Interest in learning therapeutic approaches, including DBT (training provided)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to form warm, attuned, and trusting relationships with students
- Strong organizational skills and follow-through
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, clinicians, and support staff
- Comfortable engaging in reflective practice and receiving coaching
- Ability to lift, carry, and support students and classroom materials as needed
