Stipend: $500/Semester
Position Overview:
The Women and Girls Foundation is seeking a passionate, reliable intern to support the expansion of our GirlGov Middle School Program. The GirlGov Community Program Intern will help lead weekly one-hour civic engagement sessions at a community site, supporting the growth of GirlGov programming in additional Pittsburgh communities. Working closely with WGF staff, interns will facilitate engaging after-school activities for middle school girls and gender-expansive youth, serving as mentors who help participants build confidence, explore civic issues, and develop leadership skills. This role is a great opportunity for someone interested in youth development, civic engagement, and community-based programming.
Community Program Facilitation
- Lead GirlGov Middle School programming in a designated community location (site + day TBD).
- Facilitate activities, discussions, & workshops that encourage civic learning & leadership development.
- Help build a welcoming, inclusive environment where youth feel safe to express themselves.
- Assist with participant engagement, attendance tracking, and session preparation.
- Contribute to program evaluation, data collection, and administrative tasks
- Help coordinate logistics for events, speaker visits, workshops, and field trips.
- Attend community outreach events such as tabling opportunities and expos.
- Support staff with event coordination, communications, outreach, and networking efforts as needed.
Structure & Supervision:
- This is a hybrid position with in-person support required during programming hours.
- Interns will have check-ins with their supervisor.
- Schedules will be created collaboratively based on your availability and program needs.
Requirements
- Reliable transportation and access to a personal vehicle are required, as interns must travel to community-based program sites.
- Ability to obtain required Pennsylvania youth clearances (PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprinting if applicable). The Women and Girls Foundation will assist with obtaining these clearances.
- Interest in youth development, civic engagement, gender equity, or nonprofit work.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with youth is preferred but not required.
