Lab Research Assistant

The Sherlock lab, located in the Department of Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology, is hiring a lab assistant to support our lab's research efforts on understanding the influence of RNA structure on translation regulation. This provides an opportunity to learn and implement computational genomics and RNA structure prediction algorithms as well as data analysis and experience how a lab works to study post-transcriptional gene regulation.

Estimated number of hours per week: 10 hrs.

Must be able to legally work for at least 10 hours per week. 

Summary of Duties:

This position is primarily a research position where the majority of time will be spent in-lab or working from home on specific assigned tasks. Weekly group meeting attendance is expected.

  • 20% meetings
  • 10% literature search, readings
  • 50% computational sequence and structure analysis 
  • 20% documentation, data entry in lab notebook

 

Required: 

  • Experience with UCSC genome browser
  • Familiarity with UNIX and RNA structure prediction algorithms
  • Completion of biochemistry and molecular biology coursework
  • Past attendance at Sherlock group meetings
