Position Overview

The Team Gymnastics Head Coach plays a critical role in athlete development, staff collaboration, and overall operations. This position requires leadership, professionalism, strong communication, and consistent commitment to Zenith West’s mission and values.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Regular $19-$40 per hour
  • Competition pay: $35-$45 per hour
  • Non working day Travel per diem: $150 per day
  • PTO as scheduled in Team Calendar

 

Schedule: Ranges depending on time of year and responsibilities 

 

Hours: 9-40 hours per week

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Team Coaching

  • Expected to have a 90% attendance rate for all assigned groups 
  • Develop weekly lesson plans: written and recorded daily
  • Update weekly lesson plans at minimum one time per month.
  • Develop conditioning and stretching regimens that are balanced in their event training 
  • 2 hours per week allowed for lesson planning
  • Continuously research and update coaching knowledge.
  • All work-from-home hours need to be approved by Team Management.

Class Instruction

  • Clock in 15 minutes before class for setup and supervision.
  • Create appropriate lesson plans for all levels coached.
  • Provide individualized workout lists for injured/regressed athletes
  • Ask for guidance when needed regarding skills or spotting.
  • Follow designated rotations and spotting procedures.
  • Know all skills and rules for assigned levels.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, athlete-centered class environment.
  • Meet all Safesport requirements.

Competition

  • Attend all assigned competition for their training group and as needed to assist with other groups. 
  • Arrive 30 minutes before meet warm up
  • Stay on competition floor to watch and cheer on the last competitor in the meet 
  • Stay for the entire session including awards’ ceremony
  • Communicate hotel and transportation needs to competitions at least 2 weeks ahead of time
  • Provide needs for flights at least 4 weeks in advance 
  • Travel as assigned by Team Management
  • Assist in planning team bonding events at each competition
  • Attend team bonding events at each competition
  • Sportsmanship: maintain friendly and professional relationships with all other coaches and teams participating and encourage athletes to do the same 
  • Maintaining professionalism on and off the competition floor 
  • Keeping conversations positive


 

Annual Events

  • Quarterly team bondings events:  (To include:  Pumpkin Patch, Holiday Party, Beach Party, etc.)
  • Team Tryouts
  • Team Banquet
  • Staff Retreat 
  • Staff Holiday Party 
  • National Signing Day
  • Zenith West Signing Day
  • Biannual conferences for each group 
  • Annual staff reviews
  • Spotting clinic
  • Continuing education hours (min 8 hours per year) 
  • Intersquad Meet & Home meet: strongly encouraged to volunteer 2 sessions outside of coaching as it is our only fundraiser.  May be assigned to jobs if needed at minimum wage. 
    • Set up and tear down required by all team coaches 
    • Cleaning at home meet for set up or tear down 
  • Must attend a minimum of two community service events each year

Class Supervision

  • Know each athlete’s name and ability level.
  • Create progressive, organized, well-rounded, and efficient lesson plans 
  • Maintain full visual supervision at all times.
  • Maintain active stance 
  • Keep conversations with other coaches to as-needed and brief as focus must be on the athletes
  • Escort athletes between events and release them directly to parents.
  • Record and report all injuries, accidents, and behavioral incidents.

Facility Maintenance

  • Complete daily assigned chores.
  • Put away all equipment after each rotation.
  • Sanitize final event mats daily 
  • Report additional maintenance needs.
  • Report any safety concerns immediately 
  • Assist with biannual pit cleanings
  • Assist in any major equipment install, repair, and maintenance as assigned.

Staff Meetings & Trainings

  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • Attend Annual Staff Retreat
  • Attend Annual Spotting Clinic
  • Complete assigned staff training by all deadlines.
  • Complete USAG annual training by August 1.
  • Complete First Aid & CPR certification every two years
  • Continuing education (minimum of 8 hours per year that are approved by management) 

Communication Responsibilities

  • Provide positive, professional communication with parents.
  • Must communicate schedule changes and coaching changes (subs) at least 2 weeks in advance
  • Weekly emails to parents and supervisors with all group details.
  • Check and respond to email within 24 hours on business days.
  • Communicate athlete progress, issues, or injuries after each class.
  • Maintain written documentation of communication when needed.
  • Schedule meetings as needed with parents and/or supervisors
  • Schedule biannual conferences 

Record Keeping

  • Track daily attendance.
  • Document athlete skill progress regularly.
  • Maintain written records of lesson plans, issues, and repetitions.
  • Complete incident and behavior reports as required.
  • Document parent conferences and meetings and follow-up in email 
  • Track behavior, issues, red flags with any athletes or parents 
    • Maintain a culture of contributing to a positive environment, supporting Zenith West, and trusting Zenith West. 

 

 

General Responsibilities

  • Uphold Zenith West’s mission, values, and professional standards.
  • Arrive on time, prepared, and in proper attire.
  • Instruct and progress athletes effectively.
  • Place gymnasts in appropriate levels or programs.
  • Understand and follow all safety and emergency procedures.
  • Provide two weeks’ notice for time-off and arrange a qualified substitute.
  • Manage emergencies calmly and effectively.
  • Maintain professionalism in all work situations.
  • Progress continually in coaching knowledge.
  • Communicating your needs effectively so supervisors can help. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
