Career Cat Student Worker | Summer 2026 Work Study

This position is for Summer 2026.

As a member of the Career Services team, you'll play a key role in supporting students and alumni in their career development journey. Our Career Cats serve as approachable, knowledgeable representatives of the department, helping connect peers to the wide variety of services we offer.

Our Career Cats are the face of Career Services- each day, you will be part of providing outstanding service and creating a positive user experience. In addition, you will be surrounded by career professional staff who are committed to helping you explore your own career options and develop marketable skills towards your future profession.

Job Duties 

Career Cats are an essential part of the Career Services team, helping ensure smooth day-to-day operations while delivering exceptional service. In this role, you can expect to take on responsibilities such as:

  1. Providing outstanding customer service to students, faculty, staff, and off-campus visitors at the front desk.
  2. Greeting all guests professionally and courteously, creating a welcoming environment.
  3. Answering phone calls, transferring calls, or taking messages.
  4. Assist in scheduling student appointments via Handshake, both in-person and over the phone.
  5. Reviewing resumes and cover letters to assist peers with professional document preparation.
  6. Monitoring, organizing, and restocking supplies, especially for the Career Cafe.
  7. Receiving and distributing mail to appropriate staff.
  8. Maintaining the Career Closet by keeping it organized, clean and presentable.
  9. Supporting special projects such as crating signage, reference materials, or event prep.
  10. Contributing ideas to improve office operations and efficiency.
  11. Participating in regular staff meetings and professional development trainings.
  12. Keeping personal and shared workspaces clean and organized.
  13. Performing other duties as assigned to support department goals.

Required Qualifications 

  1. Career Associates must maintain 6 hours of coursework for the summer with at least a 2.5 overall GPA to qualify for the position.

Other Considerations 

  1. Must be motivated to work with other students.
  2. Must possess good written communication skills.
  3. Be available to work 8-10 hours per week.

Payrate Determination: The pay rate is determined by the institution’s payrate for undergraduate student pay and is evaluated on an semesterly basis. University Pay Plan : Office of Human Resources : Texas State University (txst.edu)

Employee evaluation process: Evaluations are conducted on a semesterly basis.
