Undergrad Intern – Bus/Mgnt (Workforce Solutions)
The Hanford Mission Integration Solutions team, comprised of globally-known and U.S. Department of Energy-trusted partners, offers Hanford solutions through mission integration. HMIS introduces innovations and efficiencies which ensure safety, deliver site integration, streamline processes, deliver cost savings, and cultivate collaboration pursuant to the Hanford mission.
The Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) Internship Program offers Undergraduate students and recent graduates an exciting opportunity to work with industry professionals, develop skills, and explore careers in environmental management, engineering, technology, business, and more.
Interns will contribute to the successful execution of sitewide operations, infrastructure management, and project support, learning from experts and gaining insight into one of the nation’s most important environmental missions.
Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) is seeking an Undergrad Intern to support the Chief of Staff organization:
The HMIS Chief of Staff organization is responsible for responsible for coordinating priorities, improving organizational effectiveness, and enabling senior leadership to operate more strategically. The Office of the Chief of Staff ensures leadership priorities are translated into clear plans, actions, and follow-through across the organization, leading and/or supporting high-impact projects, special initiatives, and cross-functional efforts; identifying process improvements and eliminating bottlenecks; supporting continuous improvement activities; preparing executive-level materials; providing research, analysis, and recommendations to help leadership make informed decisions; and acting as a central point of contact to align departments, resolve interface issues, and support collaboration across the enterprise. Under the CoS, the Office of Portfolio Planning & Optimization is responsible for provides strategic oversight and integration of sitewide projects, ensuring program alignment with DOE mission and contract priorities, and supports cross-functional coordination to ensure resources are optimized and One Hanford initiatives are delivered efficiently. Interface Management ensures effective coordination between HMIS, DOE, and the other Hanford Site contractors, managing technical, contractual, financial, and operational interfaces; maintaining interface agreements and service-delivery documentation; resolving cross-organizational issues; and supporting consistent, compliant, and efficient delivery of services across the site.
Basic Qualifications
• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Systems, Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
• Must have one college term completed at an accredited college or university, must be enrolled as a full-time student and live within a commutable distance from the Richland work location.
• Must have and maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or above.
• Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge.
Desired Qualifications
• Knowledgeable of SharePoint, business communication systems
• Familiarity with AI platforms, information systems, or digital collaboration platforms.
• Demonstrated involvement in student organizations, leadership roles, or campus employment related to human resources or workforce development.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team and effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Proficiency with Canva, Visio, or other Marketing/Graphics program
• High level of integrity and professionalism.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated leadership or initiative in academic, extracurricular, or work activities.
• Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks/projects.

Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate:
Freshman: $18.26
Sophomore: $24.38
Junior: $24.380
Senior: $28.77
In accordance with the HMIS wage determination process, offers will be made by taking into consideration the degree program the candidate is currently enrolled in - or - scope of work the position will perform, grade level in school (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior) as well as the external labor market. A candidate’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions. The starting rates, and ranges listed (if applicable) represents the full wage scale that may be offered for this position.
In accordance with the Service Contract Act, this position is eligible for the health & welfare wage adder of up to $4.93 per hour.
In compliance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Field Office (HFO) direction, employees issued initial badges on or after September 1st, 2025, are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a federal background check investigation. This investigation encompasses multiple areas of eligibility and includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year.
