HR Intern, Compensation HR Associate

Review, edit and approve human resource transactions in the areas of compensation/classification and recruitment to ensure the accuracy and efficiency transaction processing. Maintain essential data for staff and positions in Peoplesoft. Respond to routine inquiries and forward complex issues to senior specialists and supervisors. Providing support for special projects as assigned.

In this role, you will develop a strong foundation in HR transaction processing by reviewing and maintaining employee and position data in enterprise systems, while gaining exposure to talent management workflows and organizational policies. You’ll strengthen your attention to detail, data accuracy, and communication skills as you collaborate with HR professionals, respond to inquiries, and support process improvements. This internship is ideal for students interested in developing both technical HR systems knowledge and a deeper understanding of how compensation management support strategic workforce decisions.

Student should be able to work on campus in summer.

Program Development and Administration: 

  • Review, edit, and process HR transactions for university employees, including appointments, transfers, percent of time changes, and P&S status changes.
  • Review and process e-Offer requests in the talent management system.
  • Review Merit/SEIU positions for accuracy including the review of classification, qualifications, and other relevant considerations.
  • Maintain merit increase date and probationary period information for Merit employees.
  • Update positions and incumbents’ information in Peoplesoft.
  • Provide support for special projects and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Advising/Communication:

  • Advise HR representatives and recruiters on compensation and classification issues, recruitment activities, and University policies and procedures.

Operational Support and Management:

  • Provide administrative support for Compensation and Classification.
  • Providing scheduling assistance as needed.
  • May provide backup coverage for HR phone lines.

Qualifications:

Education or Equivalency Required: 

  • Typically requires an interest in Human Resources from someone who intends to receive a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualification: 

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable Qualification:

  • Previous experience with transaction processing/HRIS systems/talent management systems.
  • Some knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting human resources.
  • Experience data entry or generating data reports.
