Help

This is a permanent, career-seasonal position subject to a period of non-pay status for up to one pay period (two weeks) per year, scheduled in January. Career-seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis.

Major Duties:

  • Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.
  • Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions, and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession-operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.
  • Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds.
  • Review and verify the functionality of new fee related systems or modifications to existing systems as a result of regulatory and program requirements.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of manuals and/or standard operating procedures for the implementation of new and existing system designs and/or modifications.
  • Provide informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc. regarding automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc.

Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties.

Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.

Area Information: Arches National Park contains the world's largest concentration of natural stone openings. Arches, spires, balanced rocks, canyons and fins of colorful red rocks are set against the dramatic backdrop of the La Sal Mountains, rising to over 12,000 feet in elevation. Due to Arches' close proximity to Moab, which is only five miles away, the park is a very popular destination for tourist from all over the US and the world, with a current visitation of almost 1.5 million annually.
