Design Engineer
General Description of Position:
- Has Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis.
- Has the Engineering in Training Status (EIT) or is qualified to obtain EIT (will pass the FE exam within 6 months)
- Assist Project Engineers, Project Managers and others in the design, and construction administration of the projects assigned.
- Encouraged to attend, read literature, or be active in one or more Professional organizations which enhance professional growth or promote business interests of firm. Examples: ASCE, SEAVA (Structural Engineers Association of VA), HRACRE (Hampton Roads Association Commerical Real Estate), ACEC, etc..
Typical Duties:
- Receives project assignments from Project Managers
- Performs analysis and design of projects under the direct supervision of the Project Engineer or Project Manager
- Reviews their own engineering work for accuracy before submitting to the project manager.
- Marks up designed items on drawings and sections that have already been made.
- Backchecks drafting work once completed by technician.
- May contact client for coordination items with approval of the PM.
- Provides construction administration services such as shop drawing review, response to RFI’s, and site visits under supervision of PM. Also performs structural special inspections of basic elements.
- Performs site surveys and prepares reports to be reviewed by PM.
