Instructor, Aerospace and STEAM
Basic Function
To provide aerospace-related STEAM instruction to upper elementary and middle school students in Santa Barbara County, primarily Santa Maria, Lompoc, Guadalupe, and Orcutt. Responsibilities include the design, development, documentation, and delivery of hands-on, interactive classroom and/or virtual reality-based learning experiences aligned with grant objectives through the Career Technical Education (CTE) Department.
Representative Duties
• Provide aerospace-related STEAM instruction to students in upper elementary (5th grade) or middle school (Grades 7 or 8) in accordance with State and Federal statutes, grant requirements, and the policies of the Santa Barbara County Education Office.
• Design, develop, document, and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based instructional experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics with aerospace applications.
• Lead the design and facilitation of classroom-based and/or virtual reality-supported learning activities that introduce students to aerospace systems, technologies, and career pathways.
• Co-develop a cohesive aerospace STEAM curriculum aligned with applicable standards, including Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and California Career Technical Education Standards for Career Ready Practice.
• Develop and deliver 2-4 aerospace-related STEAM lessons per classroom, dependent on scheduling.
• Collaborate with CTE department staff to ensure instructional content and program design align with the intent, scope, and deliverables of the grant.
• Coordinate with school district partners to develop and maintain multi-part instructional schedules, site logistics, and implementation of instructional activities throughout the school year and, as contract days allow, summer learning opportunities.
• Create engaging, inclusive learning environments by differentiating instruction to meet diverse student needs and promote high levels of engagement and participation while integrating career awareness, exploration, and employability skills into all instructional activities to support early exposure to aerospace and related industries.
• Participate in planning meetings with CTE staff to evaluate program effectiveness, assess student engagement, and revise instructional programming as needed.
• Maintain instructional materials, equipment, and resources, including virtual reality equipment when applicable, ensuring proper use, safe storage, and long-term usability beyond the grant period.
• Establish and maintain positive professional working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and community partners.
• Represent the aerospace STEAM program and the Santa Barbara County Education Office in a professional manner at all assigned sites and activities.
• Maintain accurate records related to instructional activities, materials, schedules, and required grant documentation.
• Assume responsibility for the safety and supervision of students during instructional activities.
• Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities related to CTE programming and instructional practice.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
For Elementary School Assignment, possession of one of the following:
A. A valid Multiple Subject Teaching Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) with demonstrated experience delivering STEAM/STEM instruction; or
B. A valid Designated Subjects Career Technical Education (CTE) Teaching Credential in a related industry sector such as Engineering and Architecture, Manufacturing and Product Development, or Transportation; or
C. Minimum three (3) years of relevant aerospace, engineering, or STEAM-related industry experience, and eligibility for enrollment in a Commission-approved Designated Subjects Career Technical Education credential program upon hire.
For Middle School Assignment, possession of one of the following:
A. A valid Multiple Subject Teaching Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) with demonstrated experience delivering STEAM/STEM instruction; or
B. A valid Single Subject Teaching Credential in a related field (such as science, mathematics, engineering, or industrial and technology education); or
C. A valid Designated Subjects Career Technical Education (CTE) Teaching Credential in a related industry sector such as Engineering and Architecture, Manufacturing and Product Development, or Transportation; or
D. Minimum three (3) years of relevant aerospace, engineering, or STEAM-related industry experience, and eligibility for or enrollment in a Commission-approved Designated Subjects Career Technical Education credential program upon hire.
Additional Qualifications: Experience and/or training appropriate to support instruction in aerospace, engineering, robotics, or STEAM-related curriculum. Demonstrated ability to facilitate hands-on, projectbased, and inquiry-based learning environments. Experience and/or training appropriate to fulfill requirements of the position.
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required by the duties of the assignment.
Grant stipends available for enrolling and completing higher education coursework.

Salary
$70,590 - $138,482/year + $2,000 MA or $3,000 Doctorate stipend
*4% Salary increase negotiated for 2026-2027 school year
