The Role
We are looking for exceptional recent graduates to join the US Origination team for a one-year programme. Origination sits at the front end of deal-making at Hg: sourcing, evaluating, and building relationships with the best B2B software companies in North America. This is a high-ownership, high-exposure role where you will work directly with senior deal partners and investment professionals from day one.
The programme is designed to give you a comprehensive foundation in private equity investing, with meaningful responsibility and mentorship throughout. Top performers may be considered for a full-time position at the end of the programme.
What You Will Do
- Conduct market mapping and thematic sourcing across Hg’s core software clusters, identifying and prioritising acquisition targets and platform opportunities
- Prepare investment triage notes and briefing materials for deal team review, synthesising company data, competitive positioning, and financial profiles
- Build and maintain pipeline tracking in DealCloud, ensuring data integrity across relationship and deal records
- Perform preliminary due diligence on inbound and proactively sourced opportunities, including financial analysis, product assessment, and market sizing
- Support outreach campaigns to founders, management teams, and intermediaries across the North American software landscape
- Contribute to bolt-on and buy-and-build target identification for existing Hg portfolio companies
- Collaborate with the European origination team on cross-border deal flow and shared thematic projects
- Leverage AI-driven sourcing tools and workflows to enhance research productivity and pipeline quality
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree completed by the start date (all disciplines considered; business, finance, economics, engineering, or computer science backgrounds are common but not required)
- Strong analytical mindset with comfort working in Excel, PowerPoint, and data-rich environments
- Intellectual curiosity about software business models, technology markets, and private equity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to distil complex information into concise, structured outputs
- Self-starter mentality with the ability to manage multiple workstreams independently
- Prior internship or work experience in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, management consulting, or technology is a plus but not required
- Authorisation to work in the United States
